Stephen Joseph Theatre
Scarborough
The Stephen Joseph Theatre is a cultural icon of the Yorkshire region, providing the highest possible standard of theatrical experience for audiences worldwide.
Over 100,000 people visit the SJT each year and many more experience its work on tour in the UK or abroad. Widely known for its world premieres of almost all of Alan Ayckbourn’s 85 plays, it shows a year-round programme of drama, music, comedy, dance, poetry and more.
Housed in a former Odeon Cinema with many original art deco features, the Stephen Joseph Theatre boasts two theatre spaces - The Round, a 404-seat theatre in the round and The McCarthy, a 165-seat endstage which doubles as a cinema. In addition, the building houses a shop, gallery and bar, and hosts events such as weddings, charity events, business lunches, conferences and private cinema hire. The theatre is also currently home to EATME café.
