Butser Ancient Farm
Portsmouth
Explore a Stone Age farm, Bronze Age roundhouse, Celtic village, Roman villa, and Saxon hall, all authentically reconstructed from real UK archaeology!
Butser Ancient Farm is an internationally-renowned experimental archaeology site, on the cutting edge of defining how we think about the past. The site spans 10,000 years of human history, and all our buildings are working experiments, helping us understand how people of the past worked and lived.
Perfect for history enthusiasts or just the curious, we offer free hands-on ancient skills activities every opening day, suitable for all ages. We also have talks, living history demonstrations, re-enactments, storytelling, music, fire festivals, and other special events running throughout the year. During termtime, we run unique and engaging school trips.
Nestled in the rolling countryside of the South Downs National Park, Butser Ancient Farm is a place out of time, away from the realities of modern life. Escape to the past and discover how our ancestors lived!
