Wind Energy Museum
Great Yarmouth
The museum is located in Repps with Bastwick (close to Potter Heigham), Norfolk. NR295JU. We are situated only a few minutes walk from the River Thurne and public mooring is available on the banks going towards Potter Heigham. We feature full sized wind pumps, steam engines and a unique scoop wheel along with a photographs, models of mills, stories and working examples that depict the evolution of drainage on the Broads.
Due to our broad collection of exhibits and activities the Museum holds interest for all age groups.
The majority of the mills featured at the Museum are some of the last remaining examples of their kind in the UK.
Guided tours of the Museum add a personal touch to your visit. Tours can be customised for group bookings or for those not so agile. Can’t visit? Perhaps your group would like to book one of our presenters as guest speaker at your venue. During school holiday periods we host children’s activities which all revolve around the power of the wind and are lots of fun.
Make sure you check our Open Days for the Museum.
Associated with the museum is Thurne Mill located via a 5 minute drive from the Museum or a leisurely stroll along the riverbank. It will be 200 years old in 2020 so there will be several events happening throughout the year. This wind pump is certainly one of the most iconic mills on the Broads and a date for the diary is the Birthday Weekend Celebration on 7th & 8th August 2021…….
