Sir Max Aitken Museum

Cowes
Explore this unique Museum in Cowes, home to three centuries of yachting and maritime history.

This magnificent 18th Century building, once a Ratsey & Lapthorn sailmakers loft, was converted and restored by Sir Max Aitken in the late 1940’s. Sir Max flew in the Battle of Britain and after the war he developed a keen interest in yachting. He founded the London International Boat Show and co-founded the Cowes Torquay Powerboat Race. In 1979, Sir Max created the Museum to preserve his remarkable collection of nautical memorabilia, which has become a tribute to his exceptional life and achievements.

The Museum is open May to September (please check website to confirm).

Opening times, Tuesday to Saturday, 10.00 – 16.00
