Stroudwater Textile Trust
Cirencester
See working historic textile machinery, some driven by a large water wheel.
The Stroud area produced cloth for the Duke of Edinburgh’s wedding uniform; it clothed officers at the battles of Trafalgar and Waterloo; Defoe said never was finer cloth made in England than the cloth presented to the future King George I by Stroud clothiers.
So come to find out what was fulling, why teasels were used and how shearing cloth led to smooth lawns.
