Amberley Museum
Chichester
Travel back in time and experience the South’s industrial and rural heritage for a unique day out in West Sussex. With over 40 different exhibits to discover, from transport to industry to communications there is something for all ages and interests!
There is a narrow-gauge railway and bus service which visitors can ride on every day the Museum is open, all included in the general admission.
Formally known as the Amberley Chalk Pits, the Museum site was once a working chalk quarry from the 1840s until the 1960s. Many of the original buildings can still be seen including four sets of lime kilns. The Life and Lime display explores the history of the chalk pits and its workers.
There are plenty of hands-on interactives across the Museum, where you can learn about the evolution of communications or find out how electricity is made. Explore a collection of vintage vehicles across the site – there is even a bus over 100 years old!
You can also see a variety of traditional crafts demonstrated by volunteers at this West Sussex Visitor Attraction.
