The Port Sunlight Experience - Find out the history of this special village at Port Sunlight Museum, experience what life was like here over a century ago in the Edwardian Worker’s Cottage, and immerse yourself in the story of soap at the interactive SoapWorks.

Our Museum tells the story of William Lever and his vision in creating this village for workers at his Sunlight Soap factory. Explore how the village developed over the years, from the working and living conditions to the charming architecture. Visitors get a chance to step inside a worker’s cottage and experience everyday life in Port Sunlight in Edwardian times. Visitors can explore the recreated home of the Carr Family who were long-time tenants and worked in the Lever Brothers factory.

SoapWorks explores why we need soap, how it gets made, what we like to buy and why, and all the different ways we use it. William Lever went from selling soap to creating the world’s first multi-national company, right here in Port Sunlight. The people who lived in the village and worked in his soap factory, and the workers in Unilever’s factory here today, have changed how we wash our bodies and clean our homes. Come and have fun learning about the science of soap and its life-saving properties!
