The Whitchurch Silk Mill is the UK’s oldest working Silk Mill, a gem of industrial heritage located on the River Test in rural Hampshire.
For more than 200 years, the Award Winning Mill has been weaving beautiful silk using historic machinery.
During your visit you can see the watermill in action at selected times. Learn about the fascinating process of silk weaving from warp to woven product.
Families can enjoy trails and hands-on activities throughout the museum. Outdoors children can have fun playing with our Water station and in our Willow den.
Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of events, exhibitions, workshops and talks at the Mill throughout the year.
During your visit you can escape to the Mill’s river side café and soak up the picturesque views, and choose from indoor or outdoor seating, in the beautiful surroundings of the mill where you can savour our seasonal menu offering a delicious selection of cakes and specials from local suppliers.
Your visit helps support and preserve the endangered craft of Silk Weaving.
We also offer a great day out for pre-booked groups of 10-50 visitors, with the options of a tour and catering.
Private hire of our venue for Wedding celebrations, parties and business events is also available.
There is free car parking available in a public car park next to the Silk Mill on Winchester Street and another free car park in walking distance in Bell Street. Two Accessible spaces are also available in front of our welcome building.
